Rise and Shine

Have you ever watched a flower or a plant change positions to follow the sun? The flower will stand, as if on it's tippy-toes, and reach as far as it can to get a taste of the sun's rays. Loyally, it will follow the sun through out the day, soaking up as much sunshine as it possibly can.
As I was eating breakfast this morning, I watched the sun kiss each branch of the tree in our backyard. I don't know why, but it was one of the most beautiful things I have seen in a while! It was as if the sun gently awoke each branch, as it's rays washed over it.
It made me think of myself. As God gently wakes me each day, do I stretch toward Him in eager admiration? Sometimes I stretch in the wrong direction and allow the things of my day take me adrift. At the end of a day like that, I wonder why I feel so crabby or worn out. A plant needs sunshine for food, energy and growth. So do we. If I do not fill up on Sonshine, my spirit doesn't have the necessary food to convert to energy to cause my roots to grow deep. Leaving me feeling a little wobbly. As if the dirt is not packed tightly enough around me for me to stand tall.
I want to be like the tree in the back yard, bursting with life as the Son wakes me gently from sleep. I want to be the plant that follows the Son through out my entire day. I want to soak up as much of Him as possibly can. To follow the light that he shines upon my path each day, allowing Him to take me along my course. Not just check off the items on my to do list.
