My wonderful husband and kids went to my brother's so they would, a. still have fun, and b. not be near me. I had to giggle at the fact that I was celebrating Independence Day, independently.
I got into comfy pj's, grabbed my book and turned pandora onto my Diana Krall station. I snuggled up to hot tea and homemade chicken noodle soup (with red chile instead of green this time) and enjoyed the quiet. I worked on a baby blanket (do not worry, it will be disinfected prior to being given to the baby!) and dozed in and out of consciousness.
While fireworks could be heard outside my window, the only view was on the tv. It made me feel better to think that I was watching the same firework extravaganza a dear friend was relishing from her NYC home.
The kids came home with stories to share, and well wishes from friends and family. Although I was sad to have missed it, I was very thankful for the down time.
So, thank you, Lord for this amazing country. One where, even on a major holiday, I can seek medical attention and medicine. Thank you for great music, good books and hot chile! And a husband, who you continue to work in and through!
Amen! Glad you are still writing. You words have been inspiring!
