This Week's Experiment is...

Motivation? Motivation. Isn't it funny how life is simply...there, without motivation. When we are motivated, life is exciting. A journey with new sights, sounds and experiences. Well, I have no motivation right now. I can't seem to want to do anything. I know that there are a lot of things that need to be done, I just can't want to do it! ...
Ok, so that was this morning. I decided that my writing (or me) was just too depressing. I got dressed and we went to the library. Once we were home, I made a decision that I was not going to get back on the computer or turn the tv on. I was going to at least one thing productive. Turns out, I did a lot. And I am in a much better mood! I didn't exactly accomplish the things I thought I should/would, but none the less, they are done!
So, this brings me to a conclusion. Motivation isn't a magical vibe that we all seem to lose on occassion. It is a choice. A choice to either sit and let the day slip away from you, (which will no doubt bring a greater depression the next day, because now there is MORE to do), or simply live. We don't always get to do the things we want in life, but we do get to live it. Each day we wake up, blessed with breath in our lungs, is a day to live. What we choose to do with that blessing is completely up to us. I am not saying that every now and then we shouldn't enjoy lounging around in pj's or sweats and doing nothing. We all need days of rejuvenation and relaxation. Maybe we have to find the balance between the two. I don't know. I think if we make a committment to ourselves to take 20 minutes out of our day, just for us, maybe we would have fewer full days of "funk mode" in our lives. So, starting today, I will try to take 20 minutes just for me. To either paint my toes, give myself a mini-facial or stare blankly at the ceiling. I will let you know. The experiment will continue...

  1. Ok, so let’s call you “motivation mommy” instead of “edamame mommy”.Ha! I think that it is a fantastic idea-20 mins for you and only you will be a great way to maintain your motivation mojo...not to mention your sanity!
