Perspective

There is nothing like a wildfire (being fueled by 50 -70 mile an hour winds), only a few miles from your house to put things into perspective. One minute life is "normal" and the next complete chaos. While the fire was not a direct threat to our house, it was for many of our friends. A few who lost everything. At least 100 houses burned to the ground! It's devastating! Some of our friends are still waiting to get back to their houses to see if they made it or not.

That's crazy to me! The addition that had the most damage is one we were going to live in. We were quite sad that we didn't move in there, actually. Isn't it funny how God will say, "no" and we just whine. Now I am praising Him for His provision.

Just this morning, after a long night of on again, off again sleep and prayer, I was jerked out of sleep by my husband's cell phone. It was 5:30 a.m. and I only had 30 more minutes to sleep. You would think I would have been gracious. Nope. Uh uh. I didn't say anything outloud about the fact that they were carrying on an actual conversation...in bed...at this hour of the morning, but I did think things. Then almost immediately, once out of bed, God hit me with conviction. There I was laying nice and warm, comfy (and safe) in my own bed, in my own home and hundreds around me have been burnt to the ground. Many of the families weren't even home from work yet to get sentimental items out before they were destroyed. What a horrible reaction to something so trivial.

So, I've decided that for the rest of the day, I am going to try my hardest (with the Lord's help of course) to show others, especially those living in my house, the grace and love that Christ shows me daily, minute by minute. Even after huge blunders!

  1. Adversity builds strength…

My heart and prayers go to you and yours and all those who may be suffering from loss.

I guess another poignant reminder (although unfortunate) that material things mean little and human lives and mean everything.

    Take care of you!!
